Investigation Site

Chateau Laroche (French for House of the Rock).

AKA Loveland Castle

Site History

Sir Harry Andrews purchased the first plot of land in 1927 along the Little Miami River, this area was also known as Loveland Park. This land was for his Sunday school boys, he later name the group the Knights of the Golden Trail (KOGT). Over time with the help of the boy’s parents (they donated the parcels of land) he obtained more land through a promotion by the Cincinnati Commercial Tribune to invest in land along the shore of the Little Miami River with a years subscription.

So in 1929 Sir Harry embarked on the building of his castle. For over 50 years Harry worked and lived in his castle. He flattened all the land around the castle to create beds for gardens, laid out a drainage system, built a wall along the road, and dug a moat and a dungeon. Constructions of the castle as per by Sir Harry consist of 2,600 sacks of cement, 32,000-quart milk cartons for concrete bricks, 54,000 five-gallon buckets of dirt, and 56,000 pails full of stone.

In April of 1981 Sir Harry Andrews was injured in a fire on his property, he succumbed to his injuries on April 16th at the age of 91.

Reported Paranormal Phenomena

Cold Spots

Electrical malfunctions

Feeling of being watched

Per interview with George Ciccarone:

Woman floating to front gate.

Knights covers being folded and hung up.

When something not of Sir Harry’s is placed inside of display case things turn "topsy turvey".

During the filming of "Lives No Longer Ours" the cast and crewmembers reporting had ghostly encounters. The production assistant claims to have had an encounter with a "female" entity while shooting. Other details of their encounters are not known.

Folklore

A King who was attached to an imported throne haunts historic Loveland Castle.

At the castle they have a picture of a young page on a king’s lap. They obtained it by using a camera that detects heat. The reason they took the picture was that they imported a throne from Europe and noticed it would start rocking back and forth.

There have been other strange events that have occurred; the castle has a dungeon that people claim has cold spots.

A woman who died in a still explosion haunts the castle.

Equipment Used

Multiple digital audio recorders and cameras. Two stationary cameras JVC – VHS C, Aiptek DVR, K II EMF meter, Lutron EMF-822A, multiple thermometers from ambient to non-contact, weather monitor station. Multiple analog recorders.

Investigation Report

The investigation began with the stationary cameras being place in the SW corner of the German game room pointing towards the stairs to the second floor. A second stationary camera was place in the SW corner of the second floor capturing the bedroom and stair area.

Multiple EMF readings were taken through out the night with an average base reading of 1.7 milliGause (which is in an acceptable normal range. Throughout the investigation there are multiple EMF spikes, they dissipate and are at this time inconclusive. All teams of investigators had audio recorders and digital cameras.

1:00am K II EMF meter is being use in a Q & A session being recorded by a digital audio recorder in the second floor bedroom. An investigator asks if "they" could move the keys on the typewriter? After a comment from another investigator there is in the background a faint typing noise. All investigators present verify no one touched the typewriter. This session ends 1:30am with no other incident.

2:15am EMF meter and dowsing rods are being used in a Q & A session being recorded by a audio recorder in the German game room along with multiple cameras. One investigator sitting in the chair makes mention that they feel something touching their ankle at this same time an investigator with dowsing rods are having the rods cross with an additions of an EMF meter spiking over 10 milliGause (this is an above normal range). At this time a picture is captured with an anomaly by the said investigators foot. One of these events by themselves would be inconclusive. Multiple correlating events lend to further investigation.

Aiptek DVR yielded one anomaly – inconclusive

No visual phenomenon was observes on both JVS VHS – C.

Investigation Conclusion

Although there was a recorded audio phenomenon and a captured light anomaly on video, we cannot reach a final conclusion about the reported paranormal activity. As to the folklore, historic research obtained that the throne imported actually came from a local church. There was an explosion of a 500-gallon steam still in November of 1929. It shook many homes and seriously injured one man, who later died.
